UNSC
The United Nations Security Council is one of the six core organs of the United Nations and plays a central role in maintaining international peace and security. Its decisions are binding for all member states. The Security Council takes the lead in any case of threat to peace by calling upon the parties to settle a dispute within peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. The Security Council has the power to impose sanctions or even authorize the use of force to deploy peacekeeping forces to conflict areas, approve or authorize military interventions, and impose economic sanctions or arms embargoes on states that violate international law.
With technological advancements in the modern world, unmanned aerial vehicles and air defense systems have become much more crucial in the latest conflicts which creates new challenges regarding airspace. For that reason, airspace sovereignty and security have become even more crucial than ever, and states are now facing the necessity of improving airspace security protocols.
States demand full control over their airspace to prevent and intervene in airspace violations. However, military operations, surveillance activities, and unauthorized airspace violations complicate this sovereignty. States must revisit their roles in setting international standards and explore how diplomatic measures can contribute to a common approach to airspace management.
The UNSC's discussions on this matter will guide global diplomacy in a new direction and redefine sovereignty of airspaces.
